The Uttar Pradesh government has announced the official dates for the free ration distribution under the Food Security Act for September 2026. From September 10 to 25, free grain will be distributed among eligible ration card holders in the state.
Under this scheme, food grains equal to 35 kg per Antyodaya (AAY) card are being provided to the cardholders. These consist of 10 kg of wheat and 25 kg of fortified rice. In addition, 3 kg of subsidized sugar for three months also is being provided.
Household cardholders and rules for subsidized sugar benefit
Free ration of 5 kg per unit member is given to PHH cardholders who are eligible. The ration includes wheat, fortified rice and nourishing millet (bajra).
Antyodaya cardholders are being provided sugar for the months of July, August and September as a one-time lump sum. The sugar is being distributed to beneficiaries at a special subsidized price of ₹18 per kg.
The eligible citizen may collect the food grains from the nearest government fair price shop within the prescribed dates.
Merit System Will Continue to Issue New Cards Even When Quota is Full
Yogi government also improved the process of issuance of ration cards and brought a new ‘Merit System’ in the software of Food and Logistics Department. Under the new technical change, even if the prescribed quota of any district or block is filled up, ration cards of new families having extreme need and those suffering from serious illness can still be made on priority basis.
Main objective of this arrangement is to ensure that deprived and helpless sections of the state get the benefit of food security without any hindrance.
Broad Verification Drive to Add New Beneficiaries
The state government is trying to link about 47 lakh to 56 lakh new eligible families in Uttar Pradesh to the NFSA scheme. The state is carrying out a broad eligibility verification campaign for the left out needy people to be included in the list for this.
The government is also preparing a special scheme to deliver ration to the homes of elderly and disabled beneficiaries keeping in mind their convenience so that they need not come to the ration shop.
Mandatory e-KYC and measures on inactive cards
The government has made Aadhar e-KYC mandatory for all beneficiaries to bring in transparency and curb fraud in the ration cards. The cards of the cardholders who have not collected ration for last 6 months are being made inactive by putting their cards in the ‘Silent Category’.
Beneficiaries failing to complete e-KYC within the stipulated time will have their ration cards canceled permanently. Citizens can check their status on official portal fcs.up.gov.in.
